Wind farm

Wind farms at muppanthal in Tamilnadu
********************************************
You are going to see some photographs of wind farms below.I took these photos during my journey to muppanthal temple last week.Driving is a pleasure through these roads. The beauty of mountains and the greenary here will take your mind to a different level.

A windmill is a machine that is powered by the energy of the wind. It is designed to convert the energy of the wind into more useful forms using rotating blades or sails. The term also refers to the structure it is commonly built on. In much of Europe, windmills served originally to grind grains, though later applications included pumping water and, more recently, generation of electricity. Recent electricity-generating versions are referred to as WIND TURBINES

A wind farm is a group of WIND TURBINES in the same location used for production of electric power. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network. At a substation, this medium-voltage electrical current is increased in voltage with a transformer for connection to the high voltage transmission system. A large wind farm may consist of a few dozen to about 100 individual wind tubines, and cover an extended area of hundreds of square miles (square kilometers), but the land between the turbines may be used for agricultural or other purposes. A wind farm may be located off-shore to take advantage of strong winds blowing over the surface of an ocean or lake.

A proposed solution for wind energy and other intermittent power sources is to create a supergrid of interconnected wind farms.
